Day 01: Arrive Cochin
Arrive Cochin by flight by Noon.
Nestling between the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea, Kerala is an enchanting mosaic of coconut groves and paddy fields, beaches, backwaters and verdant hills. Cochin, Kerala’s main trading center for spices and sea food is also Kerala’s most cosmopolitan city. According to legend, Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Vishnu, created Kerala by throwing his battle-axe into the sea. The abundance of canals, lagoons and lakes in the state seem to reinforce this legend of a land born from the sea. Undoubtedly the commercial hub of Kerala, the city of Cochin is where ancient civilization gracefully mingles with modern life. Right from the early years, Cochin has had cultural and trade relations with the outside world. She had also experienced pulsating episodes of European colonial rivalry. Today with a natural, all-weather harbor and replete with serene backwaters, beautiful lagoons, wooded isles, and a magnificent seascape, Cochin is indeed the Queen of the Arabian Sea.
You will be well received on your arrival at the Cochin airport and transfer to hotel.
Arrive Hotel and check- into your room.
In the afternoon, proceed to visit the city of Cochin, visiting historic Jewish Synagogue (closed Friday & Saturdays), with its Cantonese tiled floors, fine chandeliers, and the Great Scrolls from the Old Testament. Also visit the Portuguese built The Mattanchery Palace or Dutch Palace (closed Fridays)- an amazing museum that displays the artifacts of the erstwhile Rajahs of Cochin and visit the enduring 16th century AD attractions for Fort Cochin, the Church of St Francis, within which is the Tomb of Vasco da Gama.
In the Evening, proceed to witness the famous Kathakali Dance performance, the riveting 400 year old dance drama of Kerala that narrates sequences from the India religious epic, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
