We had an AMAZING travel experience with Deepak and Dependable Travel Solutions India. Although we didn’t meet Deepak in person, we were confident in his judgment and expertise. We trusted- and were correct- that if there were any problems, he would resolve them for us. These were important points since we were traveling alone in a big, unfamiliar country. 

The trip planning was outstanding. As newish travelers to India, we didn’t know what we didn’t know. We had a list of sites we wanted to see, with a focus on archeological sites, temples, and palaces (and a game preserve). Deepak took our list, created a one-of-a-kind itinerary, followed our lead on the type of accommodations we wanted, made very smart recommendations to us for adjustments, secured good guides in each of our many stops, and, critically important, hired a highly competent and patient driver for us. Also very important, he respected our budget! 

We had an fantastic 17 day journey. We always felt in safe hands. We hope we’ll have the opportunity to travel in India with Deepak and Dependable Travel Solutions again.

Carl and I are settled in Cochin and preparing for our departure to Abu Dhabi and then New York. As we settled and enjoyed the quiet yesterday, we reflected on our wonderful trip and the many historical, interesting and beautiful places we saw. All in all, our trip was a GREAT experience for us. A few more details on our trip (added to the information we've sent previously).

Strong points. Beach in Betelbim. Such a great choice, and hotel was fine after all.  Hotel staff were very responsive. Much appreciated.

Toyota car.  We had a ride in a Tata car from the Kochi airport. NOW we really appreciate the Toyota! Thank you for knowing we would be more comfortable in the Toyota. So true. 

Our dinners at Villagio. We ate very well. Thank you for your kind offer. 

Bison River Resort. Wonderful location. We enjoyed listening to the river and the falls, and the nature walk. The simple, homemade food was very good, too. The kind chef/waiter (not sure of status) brought us coffee at 6:30 am (without our asking) before the nature walk. Nature walk guide was very good.

BUT They need more signage or better signage, as it was very hard to find the resort. Driver Ram had to stop many times because there were no sign indications for the Resort.

That's it, I think, and I share them so you will know for future guests.

We feel so fortunate to have been able to do so much in our 17 days and to have done so with so much comfort and within our reasonable budget.

Well, as we were told there was lots of snow in the UK on our return. The airport was practically empty, all BA flights having been cancelled.

We started off from Heathrow at around 6pm in a taxi which was to take us home.  After around an hour the weather started to get worse with drifts of snow and lorries and cars scattered all over the roads, trying to pass these proved to be very difficult as once you stop on snow it is difficult to get started again with wheels spinning and getting nowhere. There were lots of people out in the villages helping by digging the snow away from our bag tyres or pushing us up the hills. However eventually our luck ran out we found ourselves in a country lane with no houses around and confronted with a hill which we just could not get up. The only option was to sleep in the car, with no heating and only a rug at -3 degrees was not funny. We slept for 3hrs then we tried again to turn round and go back, which we managed but again got stopped by a hill so snuggled down again to another 2 hours sleeping in the car. Quite an adventure but eventually reached home. Completely exhausted...

I hope all is well with you and your family. We would like to thank you for a wonderful trip to India. Dependable Travel exceeded our expectations of our trip and we are looking forward to returning next year. First let me say that Our driver Rana was fantastic, we were not only comfortable but felt safe at all times. Even the long travel times from place to place were exciting and fun. We learned as much with him while driving as we did with the guides on our tours. Please tell him we said "hello" and thank him again for all that he did for us. The Guides were great but I have to say that Ranjit Maan, and Angelica Bhalla were the best. Their knowledge and most especially their patience with us was wonderful. There was so much to see and learn about, with our excitement and fascination of all we were seeing I know they had to repeat many things and answer our multitude of questions.  The three of us have discussed in great detail our likes and dislikes of the trip, we all agree that there really is nothing we are unhappy about. As far as feedback goes the one thing we all agree is you really should include some sort of tip scale for new comers. The last night of our trip we found a tip scale in a guide book provided by the hotel. When we read through it we found that we had been over tipping  by more than double what the book recommended. This was why our funds were completely gone by the last couple of days. Also I have to say at the Imperial, I was not impressed when our luggage came out and there were six different people there all helping to put our luggage in the car. Consequently when I went to tip I felt obligated to tip them all and gave them each 150 INR because I had no idea what the average tip was there in India. There is no tipping in Scotland where Marsha comes from so she never thought to budget for such things. People should be informed so they can be prepared. When someone at the historical sites tells you to come and take a picture then after you have taken it holds their hand out for money it is very unpleasant (I am speaking of the dancers, musicians, and people dressed in Indian attire). As foreigners we are excited to get pictures of the things we see and do, we expect to pay for souvenirs but not the pictures we take. It would help to have the guides purchase some of the things people find that they want. Rana and Angelica both did this for us on several occasions. The people there see "white" people and assume we are rich but the truth is we saved a very long time for this trip and ended up spending more on our credit cards than expected and are now trying to recover. Rana would purchase our drinks and chips or candy when we wanted them because when we tried to buy them ourselves people were charging 120INR for a cola and another 140 for a candy bar. When a local would purchase from the same vendor they would be charged 40 INR....we were being charged triple price. I know you cannot change the culture but at least prepare your clients on what to expect, and encourage your guides to inform people to allow them to mediate when they want to purchase something. All in all we spent another 4000USD on top of the 6000+ we paid before we got there. This is not including the two rugs I still owe for. I love the rugs but am seriously wondering if I am being over charged because of where I come from. I wonder if you would have been given the same price if you wanted to buy the same rugs. I have to say that Khem Villas does it well...they tell you at check in that they do not encourage tipping, but rather at the end of your stay there is a tip box so you can tip based on your overall experience.
Also as far as Khem Villas goes I would encourage you to have them book your safari trips through the hotel and not do it yourself. I say this because we went to the same gate/area all three times and never had the opportunity to see any of the other locations of the park. We were thrilled to see the things we did see, but feel that we lost a great opportunity to see more. The guide at the villas (not the one from Dependable Travel) explained that when you book through them it is arranged personally for you and you can even choose which areas you would like to see.

Nov 3rd:
Great to meet you personally on arrival. The flowers was a big bonus. Hotel was good, but we couldn't seem to find anything close by, like shops, restaurants, though it was in main Connaught Place area.

The guide was polite and friendly and seemed knowledgeable. But he wasn't clear about if he would pay for himself or if we should, before he joined us for lunch. We weren't very familiar with the tip culture in India so we didn't give any on our first day except the lunch.

Most guides throughout the world do seem to have some sort of side income on commission. We were taken to a place supposedly run by the government to look at carpets from Kashmir.

Nov 4th:
Again, we appreciated to be seen off by you personally.

We were met by your representative and local guide in Agra upon arrival at the hotel. The guide was very knowledgeable but could at times have been more smiling/casual. I believe he would be perfect to shepherd big groups and keep them on schedule, but he lacked just the last social touch.

The hotel was good and clean as should be and it had a restaurant on the roof with a good view.

Also this time the guide suggested that we should go and have a look at some local stone work, and probably wanted to bring us to some shop of questionable kind. We couldn't know for sure, but we chose to skip it.

Nov 5th:
The guide did a great job at navigating us through the crowds at Taj Mahal and we got some time to wander around ourselves.

Bharatpur Bird sanctuary was actually far more interesting than we had imagined and it was great to take a break from the busy world around. The guide/naturalist was superb. And a little rest from the busy streets of India was well received.

At the railway station we were in for a surprise. While standing on the platform a big crowd gathered around us. For my own part I found it mostly amusing (once in a lifetime experience ;-)), but I would understand if some would find it uncomfortable also.

We had one person in the group who at this time was quite tired of all the people, so it got to be a bit too much. Big bonus points to the driver, who both saw us well off and kept people at bay.

The train comfort was good and we arrived safely and was picked up at the moment we stepped onto the platform.

We arrived at Ankur Resort and checked in. Management/reception seem very efficient and polite. I would recommend the resort because of the facilities and the rest of the staff. Great service and good and varied food.

It was a bit unclear when the safari the next morning would take place and we had the reception call the local agency. The local representative arrived swiftly and things sorted itself out.

Nov 6th:
The guide picked us up from the hotel at the agreed upon time, and we had a fantastic safari. We took route 6, which is one of the routes that both big canters and jeeps can use, but the guide mostly avoided the canters. We got to see a lot of different animals and the guide was excellent. He kept his cool and could tell us a lot about the animals and the park itself. (Name: Jyotirmoy).

He also accompanied us to Ranthambore Fort and even though it was a quick visit we got to see a lot. The great thing about the guide was that he seemed to know many of the people working up there so we got to take several pictures of them working. For no cost at all. Super guide.

For our second safari our guide had run into some problems with the jeep/driver so he had to find a replacement. The guide we got was a lot younger and more restless. We took route 7 because of an earlier spotting of tigers. This guide was mostly focused on the hunt for tigers, and nothing else. But he did redeem himself and we got to see 4 tigers (mom and three cubs) up close! which was excellent !!!

Nov 7th:
The following day we got the same guide again and drove out to see route 8, which again had a completely different scenery. Both route 7 and 8 were inaccessible for the big canters. You should make all future customers take the jeep, or they'll regret it badly.

All in all the trip to Ranthambore was well worth it and a most welcome retreat from the otherwise busy India.

We checked in at Hotel Rani in Jaipur, which is just an amazing/fascinating hotel. The rooms were completely different from one another and the detailed work was just amazing. It was placed in a quiet street but close enough to some lively streets for a good evening walk. Also, dinner seemed to be included at the hotel without the voucher saying so, and the staff was just plain sweet.

The guide was great and was genuinely interested in all the sights. He was also very honest in telling us about what to do and not to do. Definitely a recommended guide.

Nov 8th:
The elephant ride up to Amber Fort was great, although the queue was long. The guide did warn us to make sure we brought extra water.
We were safely dropped off at our hotel at the end of the trip.

For the complete journey we all agree that the driver, Mr. Manoj, was outstanding. He took well care of us, met on time every day, and stopped to let us photograph interesting sights. Definitely the best driver we encountered in India and we felt very safe. When he arrived to pick us up we could count on him to have the car restocked with cold water and a full tank of gas.

Thank you for the email, we are not sure why you felt the need to write again as overall we had a wonderful trip, there were a few issues with the Munnar choice but you finally resloved it without any problem.

FYI, we were not upgraded to a two bedroom cottage but given the similar accommodation but slightly higher up and with a balcony, which was better.

We have put an album of our trip together (thanks to IPhoto) and it is wonderful to look back on, we will treasure the memories of Kerala always.

Life is hard for them and they have to work very hard and I greatly admire what they are doing for the next generation.  Although I can no longer travel I follow with great interest events in India and the so-called economic miracle. I do hope that your business will flourish and be a great success - you certainly deserve it!

Thanks for organising our trip to India and here is the complete feedback !

Mandawa : hotel was OK ; very calm and quiet ; but the food was not very good  (the evening buffet and also the breakfast were not good qualites )

The guide for the tour in Mandawa was not good ( he was doing too much if you know what I mean ; he was not feeling sincere ; and we did not appreciate to have to go to his father ... to see the things his dad was selling )

Bikaner : hotel was nice but food was not good, though the situation of the hotel is nice. The guide was very good and knowledgable. We didn£t like the program in bikaner because there was no city tour, which we wanted to go but the guide wanted us to follow the program. But when we told him that we are not interested, then he took us for city tour. So we finally go on to the camel farm and not the temple and thereafter city tour .

Jaisalmer : hotel was very nice good situation , good staff but we had to ask for hot water ! and the bed were not confortable at all ! restaurant was very good and breakfast too .

The guide in Jaisalmer was very good and nice, we really appreciate is tour , discovering nice cafe and local food . he was listening for what we wanted .

Jodhpur : hotel was very bad !! very noisy and we were in a room who was just up to the main entrance, so it was very noisy ; the hotel has a bad situation in a small village, too far from the city . restaurant was not good at all .. buffet was not good .. and breakfast also .

The guide was very nice and very funny we really appreciate our tour with him .

What we regret is not to have more time in the city ; we arrive in the end of the afternoon so it was a little bit short to discover Jodhpur .

Udaipur: too long to arrive in Udaipur ; we went in Ranakpur and then in Kumbhalgarh fort so we arrived in udaipur around 7 pm . even if the tour was very interesting it was too much road for the day because we drove a lot during the all tour ; so it was not necessary to do both Ranakpur and kumbhalgarh fort . if we had only one of the two it would have been enough. The Guest House was very nice ; meal to be served too long but it was very good. We appreciate to be alone for once and visit udaipur by our own .

Pushkar: hotel was nice good situation ; nice staff ; good restaurant . We didn£t like the guide in Pushkar he was just doing too much ; not very pleasant.

Jaipur: hotel general£s retreat: it was the best hotel of our tour : nice rooms ; staff very pleasant and warmful  ; restaurant excellent and breakfast perfect, we really appreciate ... The guide was very nice as well ; we really appreciate the tour with him ; really kind person .

Agra: hotel bhoomi residency : it was not a good hotel ; we were disappointed to finish our tour with this hotel (and we were coming from general£s retreat !!) room was OK (bed confortable) but we had to ask for hot water several time and also for towels because domestic help forgot them ! The only positive things of the hotel is the situation (very close from Taj Mahal) and the staff who was very nice .

The guide was the best of our tour , he was very nice and calm ; good knowledges .

Here it is and I will finish with our driver Rana who was the best of all ; thanks to him we had a good tour to India ; he did everything to make us happy and enjoying our tour . He is very serious person and very warmful ; We realy enjoy being with him during the fortnight.

We also wanted to thank you for your presence during the tour ; what you did to make it very nice ... and thanks a lot for the flowers it was a nice attention !

Also, the candle night dinner and honeymoon cake was the surprise gift for my wife. I would say it was nice to visit the beautiful sightseeing there in Darjeeling.

I think the sightseeing location list was not updated with you, as some of the points were already closed, so we had to manage with the available points only. But any ways, we enjoyed a lot in those points.

It was great to chose Kerela as a vacation target.

My wife and me found the trip as pleasant, relaxing and interesting. The trip plan was perfect and the resources well selected.

Only the House Boat in spite the friendly staff to sleep on water alone in a small room was difficult to digest, though it was a best houseboat you had offered.
Best of the Hotels were Spice village and Leela.

All the places we visited were great but Munnar, overnight Houseboat, Kovalam, Kanyakumari and Rameshwaram were very nice and the kids really enjoyed the whole trip.

The car was excellent and the driver Shivan was very nice, who made our journey very comfortable.

We all arrived home safely and on time. It is 5 degrees C here and has been snowing whilst we have been away. We still have snow in the garden! - this is unusual for this time of year as Spring has now started. You can imagine how cold we feel after all the sunshine and heat in India.

We had a great time and saw many new sights and enjoyed new experiences. Once again your attention to detail was of the highest order. We will talk for years to come about how you managed to get food onto the train after being let down by Indian Railways and the way you dealt with the Railway policeman!
 
The trip was fantastically organised with lots of little extras that continually surprised us.

Sorry for not replying sooner, but my Mother is in hospital and I have been busy dealing with all of that as well as catching up with work.

You can be certain that we had a wonderful trip to India and your help and assistance in everything we did was of immense value. I saw my chiropractor on Saturday and she was able to give me some relief.  It was just a pulled muscle, not my back.

We haven’t had chance to sort through the many photos we took, maybe this weekend we will get some time.  If there are any that I think worthwhile I will send you a copy direct.  I expect Clive will collate everyone’s photos and make a DVD of them all.

It was a great trip and everything was perfect except 2nd Jeep safari inside Corbett National Park, where we could not see much, as our jeep got stuck inside the jungle due to mechanical fault. But thanks to you for organizing another jeep for us and we could go back to our hotel. Though there were driver and guide with us in the jeep but still we were very afraid, as it was dark around and we were with our family & kids. But overall, we had a real jungle experience in Corbett.
